Daphne Du Maurier Literary Festival
Thriller writer, Daphne de Maurier resided most of her life at nearby Polridmouth Cove. Born in 1907, De Marier had a creative background and was the grand daughter of artist and writer George du Maurier. She began writing short stories in 1928 and three years later, her first novel, "The Loving Spirit" was published. Her most famous, critically acclaimed books, 'Jamaica Inn', 'Rebecca' and 'Frenchman's Creek' were directly influenced by her affection for Cornwall.
To honour her life and work, The Daphne Du Maurier festival is held once a year during May. The festival consists of a range of events including readings from celebrity authors and a number of activities such as guided walks, drama productions and local events. Past visitors and entertainers at the festival include Dave Gorman, Mo Mowlem, Kate Adie and Michael Crick.
